POUTASI, Dame Doctor Karen (née Davidson) – On January 1, 2026, passed away suddenly in the presence of family. Beloved mother and mother-in-law to Catherine & Evan Poata-Smith, Namouta & George Cuthers, Markerita & Leon, and Apinelu & Bridget Poutasi. Proud Nana of Tumoana & Kataraina Poata; Luka, Leah, and Levi Ma’aloga; Sean & Ryan Duggan; Emilia, Samuelu, and Archie Poutasi. She was a treasured sister of Robyn Dunphy, as well as an aunt, friend, mentor, public servant, board member, and independent director. A gentle, kind soul, Dame Karen served her community with humility and love. A service for Dame Karen will be held at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul (new), located at the corner of Hill and Molesworth Streets, Thorndon, Wellington (across from Parliament), on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed by a private cremation.
