John Terris

TERRIS QSO: Reverend John James;  (Former Hutt City Councillor, Member of Parliament, and Hutt City Mayor). On 2 February 2026 unexpectedly and peacefully John died at his home in Lower Hutt, aged 86 years. Husband of Katie, and former husband of the late Maureen.  Father of Sally-Ann, Julian, and Ruth and step-father of Jo, Alex and Lucy Hawley.  Loved granddad of  Krissie, Shannon, Hannah, Hermione, Ben, and Zac, and great-granddad of Phoenix, Elijah, Violet, Daemon, Nathan, Isabella, Kennedy and Lincoln.  Loved brother of Alex, and the late Don, Mary, and Roseanne. John will be forever loved by his family. Special thanks to all of the emergency services who assisted on the day. In lieu of flowers donations to Christ Church Cottage Museum Trust, Taita would be appreciated at 01 0530 0366528 00.  A funeral service for John will be held in St James Anglican Church, Woburn Road, Lower Hutt on Wednesday February 11, 2026 at 2.00pm.  A private burial service will take place at Christ Church, Taita on Thursday.
