Brian Smith

SMITH, Brian Darvill; On August 8^th 2025, passed away peacefully after a strong fight with a very rare cancer at Wellington Hospital with family by his side; age 70.

Most loved and cherished soulmate and husband of Hannah-Jane (Hannah); Treasured and very much respected father , stepfather and father-in-law of Alex & Priscilla; Rachel & Hiroki; Daniel & Christine; and Greg & Mel.  Most cherished and very precious Grandpa of Adriann & Everly; Chelsea, Austin & Baby Yajima; Beauden & Ashton and Rezna & Ollie.  A loved little brother and friend of Paul & Sue.

In lieu of flowers donations in Brian’s name to https://sarcoma.org.nz/donate-online/ for “Sacoma Research” to help understand and fight this frightening and rare disease, would be very much appreciated.

“Brian, I thought of you today

but that is nothing new,

I thought of you yesterday,

and the day before that too.

I don’t need a special memory

to bring you to mind,

Because a day without a thought of you.

Is surely hard to find.

A special thanks to our wonderful and dedicated Oncology Team at Wellington Hospital, led by Dr Anne O’Donnell; the care given to Brian (and his red scooter) and the support shown to me, will not be forgotten.  I thank you.

A funeral service will be held in Cornwall Manor, corner Knights Road and Cornwall Street, Lower Hutt on Wednesday 13th August at 10.30am.  Messages may be posted to the “Smith Family” c/- P.O. Box 30-127, Lower Hutt.
